National summit on electronic set top box opens today

The two-day national summit on electronic Set Top Box (STBs) or decoder manufacturing opened today, Thursday 21 October 2009, at Gallagher Estate Midrand at 9am and runs until 3pm each day.

The event is hosted by the Department of Communications and follows on its development of the STB Manufacturing Sector Development Strategy to appraise and engage all entities involved in the value chain of manufacturing in the country.

The STB Manufacturing Sector Development Strategy is part of the implementation of Broadcasting Digital Migration Policy of 2008, which aims to boost the electronics-manufacturing sector and contribute to job creation in the country.

The Minister of Communications, General (ret) Siphiwe Nyanda, will open the summit and invites entities or persons interested in the value-chain of electronic STB manufacturing, including decoder installers, to attend the summit. Opportunities exist for companies in the electronics-manufacturing sector, including SMMEs.

To confirm attendance contact Richard Mantu at or cell +27 (0) 72 488 1520.
