Soweto TV gets new chairperson
Soweto TV (STV), which has recently been granted its first seven-year broadcasting license by ICASA, has announced that its new chair is Murphy Morobe, CEO of Kagiso Media. The station is a non-profit entity, supported by Urban Brew Studios (UBS) - a subsidiary of Kagiso Media - to fulfil the objectives of catering for the community and training talent to run the station.
Morobe, who believes in the importance of a strong community media sector contributing to the diversification of media in South Africa, says that STV has consistently shown the best prospects for success in meeting the objectives for which community television exists. "I therefore hope to contribute towards achieving even greater success," he said.
He has extensive experience in the private sector, having held directorships and chairing Ernst & Young South Africa and the South African National Parks Board.
