Your licence to skill

A new educational reality series starts on SABC2 this Saturday, 13 October 2007. ‘Tswellopele – your licence to skill' engages with young learners and unemployed people who wish to acquire minimum qualifications and new skills in a particular field of interest.

“It's about changing the lives of ordinary South Africans,” explains Masetha Serakoana, commissioning editor at SABC Education. “The show creates opportunities to study further, irrespective of age or skill levels. In each episode, we feature a FET (Further Education & Training) college in a particular province, profiling the college and interviewing key representatives from the college. Interviews focus on questions relative to a chosen career or sector of the episode, each episode explains the role that the FET College plays in skilling, reskilling and empowering the workforce.”

Xstrata SA, a global mining company is providing Tswellopele – your licence to skill with a generous sponsorship of weekly study bursaries for candidates and viewers who want to go into a particular field course at a FET college. The bursaries allow candidates and viewers to study around the country in courses ranging from electronics and engineering to clothing production and joinery and carpentry.

Tswellopele is produced by Welela Studios for SABC Education and is presented by newcomer Vuledzani Munyai. The show, to be screened on Saturdays until 5 January 2008, covers the xiTsonga, Sesotho and tshiVenda languages.
