Local consortium gets Canterbury SA licence

It has been announced that a local consortium, headed up by sporting goods distributor, Super-Brands has recently acquired Canterbury South Africa. The global brand, best known to South Africans for sponsoring and manufacturing the Springbok rugby kit since 1994, will now be exclusively distributed and marketed by the Super-Brands Group consortium.

Looking forward, Canterbury continues its sponsorship of SA Rugby and says it is committed to the development of the sport in South Africa. “SA Rugby has shown full confidence in the new consortium and, with their support, we are eager to move forward,” says Cuan Chelin, CEO of Super-Brands. “Our next priority is undoubtedly the upcoming British and Irish Lions Tour of South Africa, where we'll see the country's top players donning the coveted Canterbury-branded green-and-gold jersey.”

The announcement of the Canterbury acquisition follows recent news of Super-Brands' expansion into the sporting arena. The group has invested heavily in the market in the last few months, acquiring the South African marketing and distribution licences for Dunlop, Slazenger and Karrimor sporting and outdoor equipment.
