Changing with the times

Despite the increased use of flexible packaging, rigid plastics stiII play a major role in the dynamic environment of cosmetics and personal care packaging. This packaging type is still preferred by many consumers because it protects contents well, does not leak easily and often conveys a premium look. As a result convertors are expanding their capacities and services.

Gain a clear advantage

Mpact Plastics has developed a new range of PET medical round bottles aimed at the pharmaceutical industry. Unlike PVC bottles, PET offers higher clarity without compromising the barrier properties of the pack.

The company is well positioned to supply PVC and PET medical round bottles to the industry together with its accompanying childproof and tamper-evident caps. The PET bottles accommodate childproof caps or standard carbonated soft drink caps and both caps are tamperproof. The bottles are available in clear and amber colours in sizes 50ml, 100ml and 200ml.

"The use of rigid plastics in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, personal and homecare industries is still very popular in South Africa," notes Zea Gove, Brand Strategist and Marketing Manager at Mpact Plastics. "Although there has been a movement towards flexible packaging for refill products, rigid sales have not declined as a large section of the population often find secondary uses for rigid packaging containers."

The company's in-mould labelling (IML) range of cosmetics jars is another popular collection. Mpact Plastics recently increased capacity of these containers. The jars are available in 125ml, 250ml and 500ml sizes. "The jars are intentionally designed without tamper-evident features as the South African market prefers being able to smell a product prior to purchasing it." Tamper-evident closures for the IML cosmetics jar range can be developed upon customer request based on volume demand.
