"The Band Behind the Idol 2012 competition was an exciting activation that showcased many talented South Africans and their musical innovation," says Craige Fleischer, director of mobile communications at Samsung. "The entries received through online video uploads onto the micro-site and live studio auditions across the country were fantastic and presented some incredible music aptitude locally.
"Unfortunately, we could only choose five winners - one in each category - but would like to thank everyone involved for their time and effort in entering this competition and demonstrating the true spirit of South African musicians - many of which I believe we will still see in the local music scene in the coming years."
The selection of the winners was a combined result of the snapshot statistics on the www.betheband.co.za website and live studio auditions that took place in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, and Durban as judged by South African artist, Danny K, and Idols director, Gavin Wratten. "Over the past few weeks we have seen some phenomenal talent and as a South African artist myself, I am very excited to see that corporate South Africa is taking such a keen interest in the growth and development of the local music scene," says Danny K. "I would like to congratulate these talented musicians on this fantastic achievement and encourage them to embrace this experience."
"We are proud to have given people the opportunity to vote for their favourite musicians and to give South Africans a platform to display their talent. We look forward to seeing the band playing at the Idols 2012 finale and wish them well in their future music careers," concludes Fleisher.
