The painting created by Paul du Toit fetched an incredible R270 000 was one of the most sought after items.
Some of the items on auction were the Zambezi Queen, Protea Hotel Livingstone in Zambia, the Rough Luxe Hotel in London, Lej da Staz in St Moritz, the Cape Heritage Hotel, Tranquility Lodge, Views Boutique Hotel & Spa, Warwick Wine Estate, Cirque du Soleil, the International Circus Festival in Monte Carlo and tickets to the Wimbledon Ladies Semi Finals arranged by Merrill Lynch.
These items helped to raise R545 000 for the Zip Zap Children's Fund, which is an innovative school of circus arts, inspiring and empowering young people. Its mission is to take "ordinary" kids (including "youths-at-risk") and provide them with the resources to develop skills through the medium of circus arts, which will develop them as young leaders, good citizens, ambassadors for South Africa, and make them eminently employable.
