Nádine triumphs at Vonk Awards
Nádine's impact on the South African market was further underscored by a breathtaking performance of the title track off her album, which has been a huge radio hit.
Indeed, as her Vonk Award reveals, “This Time I Know” has proved a significant crossover hit for the top-selling Afrikaans artist and is rapidly approaching gold status in South Africa. What's more, the album is also currently on release in New Zealand and a release across Europe is being planned for 2010.
Nádine was clearly moved by the award, thanking everyone who has supported her career during the last 15 years.
"It's the first official award I've ever received and is really something special after all those years of hard work with my whole team," Nádine told the audience. “I want to thank my fans, the South African media and especially radio. It's through your support that 'This Time I Know' has been able to reach new audiences and take me into new waters.”
Hugo Foets, Nádine's manager, said the award was confirmation of Nádine's talent. “From the first moment I heard Nádine's voice I was impressed by it. During the recording of the album I was struck by her incredible talent as well as her inexhaustible commitment and rare perseverance. This award is a great recognition for a big South African artist who will soon be discovered by the rest of the world.”
Irving Schlosberg, chairman of EMI Music South Africa, was also thrilled with Nádine's award.
“Nádine is a true superstar artist who has contributed significantly to the South African music industry. This achievement is just reward for her special talents and the high esteem in which she is held in our music industry.
“Her vocals on 'This Time I Know' are exceptional and her album is truly a world-class production, which certainly deserves success. We are really hopeful that the award will raise further awareness of Nádine's talents, leading to further international releases and an extended career for Nádine outside of South Africa as well.”
