Omo environmental campaign opens in schools

The Omo Liquid 2013 schools campaign is continuing its environmental journey by educating and encouraging the switch from a hot to a cold wash cycle, through its schools' challenge, where more than 500 participating will be challenged to collect as many empty Omo liquid bottles as possible as a pledge for the switch to a cold wash.

More than 500 schools in Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal, Western Cape and Port Elizabeth will be part of the schools' challenge.

Andrew Mysell, marketing manager, Omo said, "It is never too late to play your part in preserving the environment. By being mindful of our activities and introducing simple lifestyle changes, we can easily reduce the impact on our environment.

"For instance, switching to a cold wash not only saves energy - it also significantly reduces the amount of carbon dioxide emissions that could potentially be harmful to the environment. The perception that only a hot wash can get clothes clean is merely an assumption.

"The existence of future generations is dependent on our current actions and so we have a responsibility to protect the earth's resources which makes our lives more comfortable and less complicated."

Winning school upgrades

The schools challenge, which runs from June to November 2013, provides parents in each region with an incentive to win R5000 towards their child's school fees simply by participating in the competition.

Winners of the national schools' competition will be announced at a prize giving ceremony in November. One winning school from each region will each receive R25,000 worth of equipment towards upgrading school facilities for collecting the most bottles.

The winning schools will also have an opportunity to nominate an underprivileged school of their choice to win R25,000 worth of equipment towards upgrading their school facilities.

As an added bonus, the winning class in each region will receive a ToysRus voucher to the value of R10,000.
