Work to be released soon by TNS on a pan-African socio-economic status (SES) shows that type of dwelling is one of the key differentiators in socio-economic status across 20 countries in Africa.
If you asked me, before I did this analysis, what type of housing has increased most in South Africa, I would have guessed shacks and squatter camps. I would have associated this with the migration to cities and immigration from across the border. I would have been wrong.
