Food Safety at the top of the agenda
The United States and the European Union have legislated track and trace requirements to ensure full disclosure in the paper trail. Hygiene standards are now the norm for processors and food preparation areas and workers - but who is an accredited auditor is the question being asked - as well as what was audited and at what cost.

This is a pivotal moment where industry can ensure that Food Safety becomes a level playing field concern - not a competitive issue (or a new cost burden) thus enabling South African and International consumers 'peace of mind' when purchasing South African product.
Recent food safety appointments at the Consumer Goods Council of SA (CGCSA) include, Professor Lucia Anelich as the CGCSA's 'champion' of Food Safety with effect 1 January 2006. Dietician, Moira van der Linde (ex-Pick 'n Pay) has also joined as a consultant. Moira is a dietician who qualified at University of Natal and will assist on the Food Safety Communications and Website development.
Francina Moakhoane has been appointed to head up the South African Codex contact point at the Department of Health.
