Cinemark positive as cinema attendance grows
While cinema advertising companies in the United States are pulling their hair out over cinema attendance figures that are dropping year after year, CineMARK, the South African cinema advertising sales company responsible for the ad sales of Ster-Kinekor, most CineCentre and numerous independent cinemas, is happy to report that attendance figures from December 2004 to December 2005 have increased enormously.
South African cinema attendance in 2005 showed a 5.5% growth from 26 173 243 in 2004 to 27 623 373, which is almost 4% more than cinema attendance grew in 2004.
An even more positive note for CineMARK and its clients is that attendance at Ster-Kinekor cinemas, whose screen space is only sold by CineMARK, grew by 6.7% in 2005, which means that its market share of monthly attendance grew by 7.9% from 57.7% in 2004 to 65.6% in 2005.
The CEO of Ster-Kinekor Group, Ferdi Gazendam says of these attendance figures "We are very excited that the affordable cinema strategy is now showing the expected results. After a very difficult few months given that we were not able to show all content in our Ster-Kinekor Junction cinemas, it's wonderful to see the growth in customer attendances in November and December, with market share figures of 65.6% being reported in January."
Selling ads on movie reels isn't all that CineMARK has in the plethora of advertising opportunities offered to its clients. From sampling to foyer campaigns to product placement in movies themselves, CineMARK offers clients a range of advertising opportunities.
