Million users on Motribe

Motribe, which focuses on providing a platform for groups, communities, agencies and brands to communicate with each other and their customers via the mobile web, celebrated its 'one million user' milestone at the Sinn's S-Bar in Wembley Square Cape Town, late last week.
Million users on Motribe

The Cape Town-based mobile web start-up began in August 2010, when Nic Haralambous and Vincent Maher joined forces to start their journey in mobile web development together. Users of the service can create their own content and build a social network to suit their needs. The user-friendly interface allows users to chat, share photos and connect with others in a safe environment, as well as blog on the go from their mobile phone. Benefits for companies using the platform include access to activity reports of the individual mobile sites, location of their users and demographic information.

It just kept on growing

During the event, the steadily growing number of users was projected onto the floating ceiling above the bar, along with the country of the particular user who had just signed up. Guests included online business personalities such as Justin Stanford, Charl Norman, Justin Hartman, Jason Bagley, Gustav Praekelt and David and Mark Perel.

The event marked the beginning of a new form of hosting online content via mobile phones.
