Is the Internet of Things the next big thing for mobile app companies?

IoT (The Internet of Things) refers to the connection of physical objects with software, sensors, electronics, and networks. This connectivity enables these objects to achieve a greater value and use by exchanging data with the operator, manufacturer, and other connected devices. This concept seems like something out of science fiction, but as technology and mobile apps become more advanced, clearly the worlds of science fiction are not too far off.

The interconnection of these embedded devices is expected to cross a new threshold in automation in nearly all fields of business. Companies will be able to get reliable and accurate real-time data directly from their consumers. Items in the IoT predicted to embrace the technology first are automobiles, heart monitor implants, biochip transponders, field operation devices for firemen and police officers, buoys, boats, and planes.

Clearly, safety is the primary concern with the tech world, and one of the main uses of IoT. The next question to be asked, then, is: how will the existing app market change and take advantage of IoT?

The integration of mobile app companies with every other business

Your average business owner will likely be unable to develop an app for their business. That is why professional mobile app development companies have flourished as smartphones have permeated and dominated popular culture. Every professional commercial business outsources their iPhone app development and Android app development to computer programming professionals.

However, if The Internet of Things is fully actualised, these commercial businesses are going to have to do a lot more than outsource their mobile app development needs. Rather, these app companies are going to be integrated into the institution itself. Companies are going to have to rely on the computer programming industry more than they ever have before. That is a level of leverage only seen when a new major medium of customer interaction surfaces.

In terms of business, IoT is exactly that. In the same way that companies have departments exclusive to sales, customer service, etc. industries will now be required to have a dedicated in-house team for both their ASP.NET web development, and streamlining and data collecting from IoT.

Can the tables be turned?

If IoT makes the computer programming industry more powerful, how close are we to seeing these companies becoming the next powerhouse in the business market? That is, instead of a banking company having a mobile and web development team, a computer and mobile development company would have a subsidiary banking team. With each new technological innovation, this industry grows, and other businesses become more dependent on them to assist their efforts.

This is because no other section in the marketplace is as valuable. Every single company needs to have web presence to even have a chance of success. That universality of dependability has only been seen with the invention of the automobile, but the difference is that anyone can drive. Only the most dedicated and knowledgeable tech professionals will be able to fully harness the power of IoT.

If consumers are able to find a business on their phone or computer, purchase their products on their phone or computer, and now, with the introduction of IoT, be able to transmit real-time data on whether or not the product is successful, it seems the only operational aspect in a commercial business not handled by tech is the actual crafting of the product. It is much simpler to learn how to create that product than all the technology associated in controlling it in the marketplace.

How this is good news for business owners

It might seem like bad news that professional mobile app developers and computer programmers will have unprecedented control in their operation. However, if business management embraces this new reality, they will have a lot to gain. With every other aspect of their business streamlined and optimized, those who actually create the product and service can focus entirely on the improvement of what the client receives.

With a steady flow of accurate data, these businesses have the perfect foundation for improvement. Even thought IoT and the following improvements are going to flip the business landscape, the ultimate determining factor in a satisfied customer is always going to be the quality of the product.
