The book fair, previously an annual event organised by the Publishing Association of South Africa (PASA), now takes place every two years, following a call from the publishing industry to remain in line with its production capacity. To kick-off this new chapter, the fair has opted for a fresh look and feel, starting with a new logo and has partnered with Thebe Special Projects, Conferences & Events to enhance the quality of the event and the experience of exhibitors.
The last fair attracted 273 exhibitors and more than 33 000 visitors, establishing itself as one of the best platforms for the exchange of information and trade in the business of publishing. It presents an opportunity for engaging the African, Arab and Asian publishing worlds.
The first morning of the fair is for trade visitors and attendance is free, provided visitors have preregistered before 1 June 2012. The public will be admitted from 2pm and events will run until 10pm.
From the book sector, the IPA Congress attracts between 600 and 1000 delegates with top professionals and policy makers as speakers. This means that the fair will be enhanced with an international flavour of the who's who in the publishing world.
Congress delegates and speakers participating in the book fair's programme will share interesting and unique insights, creating an opportunity to network with global leaders in the publishing world.
According to Brian Wafawarowa, executive director of PASA, the value of the Congress being held in Cape Town is enormous. "It will be the first time that the Congress is being held in Africa in over 100 years."
