SA to showcase trade, investment advantages

The South African International Trade and Investment Conference and Exhibition 2008 will bring together local and foreign business people as it showcases the advantages of doing business on the southern tip of Africa.

The Department of Trade and Industry, along with the country's provincial investment promotion agencies, are hosting the event at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on 30 and 31 October 2008, reports SouthAfrica.info.

Flagship projects, products and services from around South Africa will be presented, highlighting the opportunities for investing in the various provinces and sectors and showcasing the country's export potential.

As the biggest economy in Africa, South Africa provides the key platform for investment into Africa and the strategic access point for the Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean markets.

As Africa is the world's last unexploited market, foreign business can find much interest here, with South Africa as the starting point.

This is not least because South African businesses have seized the moment to become the biggest single investor in sub-Saharan Africa. Africa is open for business, and South Africa is leading the way, the department said in a statement.

The conference delegation list will include government ministers, diplomats, foreign businesspeople, Chief Executive Offices and senior executives of South African companies, as well as selected national and international journalists.

A debate is to take place on the day of the summit will form an important part of the event.

According to the department, the conference will provide an ideal opportunity for South African organisations and their international counterparts to form business alliances with key global role players.

The conference will consist of plenary sessions as well as sector-specific breakaway sessions featuring case studies from government, private sector and academic speakers.

Business presentations will be based on practical business opportunities, funding, trade agreements and incentive schemes.

The conference will also feature packaged projects from municipalities across South Africa, with a focus on ensuring that investors are easily able to access these projects.

A key feature of the conference will be the extensive one-on-one business matching meetings between interested international buyers and investors and their South African counterparts.

Sectors to be targeted at the conference and exhibition include energy, tourism, financial services, manufacturing and beneficiation.
