New technical training facility for packaging equipment technicians

A new technical training facility for packaging equipment technicians opens this month at the head office of Tetra Pak in Isando. Costing more than R13 million, it features a full A3/Flexi Line packaging line and is expected to save customers 25% to 30% of the cost of training technicians abroad.

"With an enriched pool of technician talent, the company looks forward to improved operational efficiencies for our customers. Investing in one's people is the best investment a company can make," says Guilherme Goinhas, cluster leader of technical services at Tetra Pak sub-Sahara Africa (SSA).

The training centre was established to provide convenient training for customers in South Africa and the SSA cluster. Goinhas expects the technical training centre to train 150 technicians in its first year of operations, completing one full line course per year.

Classes at the technical training centre will be kept to a maximum of six students to ensure a high level of attention from lecturers. Lecturers will initially be technical training engineers from the global head office in Lund in Sweden and will later be replaced by specialist engineers from the sub-Sahara Africa cluster.
