Jon Savage launches SA Music Industry Podcast

Each episode will be 30-45 minutes long with the first introductory episode released on Friday, 1 July. After that they will be released every Monday morning on www.jonsavage.co.za.

Highlight episodes include:

• Raphael, manager of The Parlotones, talking candidly about the methodology around the rise of The Parlotones;
  
• 5FM music compilers about exactly how they choose music for on air;
  
• Stephan from MK about how they select music videos for the channel;
  
• Ross Garrett - legendary photographer,
  
• Caroline Hillary from Red Flag talking about mistakes bands make in PR;
  
• Charl, the brand ambassador for Jagermeister, about how bands strike up relationships with sponsors.

The podcast will consist of two elements: the first, a candid interview with SA music professionals: here Jon Savage will look at various happenings in the industry.

The second is a "demo crit": "Every week I get CD's from bands asking me to play their songs on my show. The good ones get on, a lot of them don't, and a whole stack of them go on my "undecided" pile. For this, I will play a song from one of the bands on my podcast to whichever industry professional is in the studio with me. And they give constructive criticism as to why or why not they think the band will work/not work," says Savage.
