Diski dancing at high noon
The South African public is invited to go out and Diski dance in the streets on Tuesday, 2 March 2010, at 12 noon. The date marks the 100-day point to kick-off and, at noon, South Africans are encouraged to meet in the streets to celebrate and sing the national anthem to show the world we are ready to welcome them to the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Spearheaded by the IMC, GCIS and South African Tourism, Fly the Flag was created to instil national pride and encourage South Africans to do their own, personal marketing job for the country. A number of 2010 partners including the 2010 FIFA Organising Committee (OC) and the South African government endorse this ‘Fly the Flag' campaign. It's aim is to engage South Africans and instil a sense of national pride around the FIFA 2010 World Cup.
The Diski dance, said to be inspired by South Africans' rhythm and football style, is South African Tourism's contribution to Fly the Flag and comprises five basic moves or dance steps: the Juggle, Header, Table Mountain, Trepa and the Bridge.
The dance was initially devised for an international television audience. The 60-second television commercial has been broadcast on CNN International, BBC World, National Geographic, EuroSport and Sky News Sport. It may be downloaded from YouTube and has featured on FaceBook and Twitter.
