Mobile ads grow 20%
The latest report from InMobi, an independent mobile advertising network, shows that there has been a 20% growth in the mobile advertising market in South Africa. This steady growth further illustrates the uptake of mobile not only in the country but also on the continent.
Data from the report for Q3 of 2011 shows that it now serves 3.1 billion quarterly mobile ad impressions in South Africa, up 20% from 2.6 billion in the previous quarter.
Key highlights
- Smartphone impressions grew 36% in the South African mobile market and it continued to outpace advanced phones
- Nokia holds a 39%, followed closely by Samsung with 30% and RIM at 19% of the impression share
- RIM OS continued to show strong growth increasing by 5.7 share points from the previous quarter. Symbian OS reflected a slight decline this quarter.
Isis Nyong'o, vice president and MD InMobi Africa says, "The latest data reflects the continued growth in the uptake of mobile media in SA. This positive growth in the region can only build well for Africa as a whole."
