New multi-million Rand ERP system at Afripack division

The Afripack Consumer Flexibles division, which consists of five business units, was bought by Afripack in 2009. After evaluating its enterprise resource planning (ERP) requirements, the group decided to implement a suitably integrated system to achieve its business objectives. It has placed this multi-million Rand deal with Softworx, an EOH company and Infor reseller for the roll-out of Infor ERP Baan IV.

An exercise was undertaken to determine the current practices and define the needs of the organisation, both from a strategic, management and an operational perspective and implementation of the system got under way in May 2010, with first phase already completed to budget and within estimated timeframes. The system is scheduled to go live in August, ensuring the new system is in place before the group year-end in September. The group first became a Baan customer in 1997.

The company regards the current implementation as part of its strategy to standardise the solution throughout the organisation and align the business for future upgrades. The two companies have also concluded a maintenance agreement and a service level agreement is in place.

"We've been thoroughly impressed by the supplier throughout the project," says Nicki Maclean, business analyst at Afripack Consumer Flexibles. "Its manufacturing knowledge and service levels are superb. It also took great care to understand and analyse our needs for the system and walked us through every process so we knew what to expect."
