Redgwoods gets new warehouse

Redgwoods has consolidated its warehousing operations in Durban by moving into a new 10 000sqm warehouse, which will help improve its distribution efficiency and cut down on pilferage. Previously it operated out of four warehouses and used the stores to hold some of the stock.

The Durban-based warehouse is part of the company's plans to streamline its operations as it continues to expand its national footprint. It has invested about R2 million in warehouse mechanisation, which includes new hoists, cordless scanners and motorised pallet jacks and forklifts.

"With increased space, we can buy products more economically as larger quantities allow for greater discounts. This means we can pass these savings onto our customer," said Redgwoods CEO, Maurice Sacher.

"From this one distribution centre which also houses the head office, we can direct the business more effectively, cutting down costs and control shrinkages. It also enables us to drip feed stock at the right time, improving our management in tracking, picking and delivering products to our 60 South African stores."
