Shedding light on skills development
Newly formed training company Kwelanga Training recently launched with a post-course evaluation tool and electronic resources for assisting delegates after attending training and providing clients with measurable training solutions offering return on investment in the workplace.
These address the market demand for skills upliftment for office professionals in three fields – structured communication, business value programmes and corporate life skills.
Kwelanga, meaning “from the sun” in isiZulu, will be operating initially in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town with a view to opening in other centres, based on market demand.
Targeted to office professionals who are responsible for both internal and external business communication, Kwelanga's delegates are instructed by a subject matter specialist who involves delegates in practical outcomes based interventions.
“Shifts focus”
“We are very excited to be able to offer our services to the marketplace” says Rose Gray, training director. “As training departments shift focus from training to learning, more emphasis is being placed on outcomes and less on activity.”
“We differentiate ourselves from other training organisations by utilising not only experts in the field of learning and development to deliver the training, but a unique post course evaluation tool (developed in the UK by the KnowledgePool Group) thus offering a return on investment in the workplace. All delegates attending our workshops receive a Kwelanga memory stick with electronic resources specific to the intervention they are on.
“Resources will include case studies, templates and other useful material to assist delegates to implement the new skills they have acquired. Our courses are outcomes based and adhere to the requirements of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).”
Loyalty programme
By understanding the challenges that Human Resource Departments face in trying to make their training budget meet their objectives Kwelanga have developed a loyalty rewards programme enabling the client to receive a percentage of their quarterly spend back in training vouchers.
Kwelanga offers in-house and group training tailored to suit each organisation's skills requirement.
Pre and post course assessments are offered in order to determine the candidate's level of competence in a specific skill and ascertain their individual training requirements. Assessments are done against unit standards in order to gain the credits available. Support and guidance is provided to delegates on SAQA requirements, NQF levels and credits.
Primary objective
Kwelanga's primary objective it to ensure knowledge acquired is successfully applied to the workplace, thus adding real value and making a visible difference to work performance.
Delegates are challenged through role-plays, relevant business exercises, group interaction and individual participation. Learners are kept focused and knowledge gained is constantly reinforced. An electronic evaluation is sent to the delegate measuring the extent of the impact in their workplace and results are compiled into a report which the relevant manager can use for interpretation.
