Chip-packet full of memories

Net#work BBDO's new 50th anniversary commercial for Simba stirs up childhood memories of South Africa in a heartwarming way. Shot and aged in post-production to give it a sense of time gone by, it is intended to be an authentic collaboration of people's actual memories.

Remember those awkward slow dances at a party aged 12, listening to the radio when there was no television, sitting on the 'stoep' riveted by a grandfather's stories, making a white bread sandwich stuffed with salt and vinegar potato chips and when everyday was like a Saturday?

Conceptualised by Net#work BBDO, the creative team was determined to keep the clichés out and reality in. Art director Sean Harrison and copywriters Tim Beckerling and Mbulelo Nhlapo chatted to friends and family to see what stands out from their childhood memories to make this ad authentic. "Simba even polled their factory," they say.
