Ngidi, who was born in Kloof in KZN, told listeners it wasn’t always an easy road. “I went to my first training session (at school) and I wanted to bat, but we couldn’t afford the kit. So I said it's fine, I’ll bowl then, and I have loved bowling ever since.”
The fast bowler made his test match debut in January this year and he went on to make figures of 7/87 in the match. Ngidi says his parents have always been supportive of him and he was delighted that they recently got to see him play as a national player when Cricket South Africa flew them up to Gauteng for a match.
Ngidi also told East Coast Radio listeners that he’s climbed through the ranks of cricket and he will keep working hard. “I’d also like to leave a legacy as a player. You strive to be the best you possibly can be. To play all three formats for South Africa is a real dream for me as well, so I am working towards that.”
The East Coast Breakfast team wishes our local lad, Lungi Ngidi, well and will be cheering him on from the stands. Don’t miss East Coast Breakfast, every weekday between 6am and 9am.
