It projects that the size of South Africa's labour force will increase from approximately 18.5 million in 2002 to 21.0 million in 2015, based on the assumption that the age-specific labour force participation rate is declining. It also projects that, although Gauteng is not the largest province in terms of population numbers, it will have about 4.8 million persons in the labour force, followed by KwaZulu-Natal (4.1 million) while the Northern Cape will have the smallest labour force (0.4 million).
