    In the Swing of things

    Back in the 1930s, American musicians produced some of the century's greatest songs, many of which are still applauded today. Now, more than 80 years later, Alistair Izobell is paying tribute to that era in Slick Swing.

    In the Swing of things

    The show features three amazing vocalists (Nur Abrahams, Aleshia Solomons and Edith Plaatjes) and a vibrant band (including musical director Don Veno Prins on saxophone, Trevino Isaacs on keyboard, Charlton Daniels on bass, Jayson Delaney on guitar, and Keagan Links on drums).

    Outstanding musicians

    Together, these outstanding musicians perform around two dozen classics, including hits by Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and a number of other artists made popular again by Michael Bublé. Highlights include soulful renditions of At Last and Cry Me A River, not to mention a rousing Mack The Knife, which had the initially reluctant audience begging for more. I guess it don't mean a thing if you ain't seen this swing!

    Slick Swing is at Roxy Revue Bar at Cape Town's GrandWest Casino until 30 March. Tickets are available from Computicket.
