SABC appoints independent internal enquiry

In the light of damaging media reports last week about the SABC curtailing the use of certain political commentators on its broadcast services, the SABC has decided to convene an independent enquiry into the allegations.

The full statement from the SABC reads: "The SABC has appointed an Independent Internal Enquiry into certain issues raised in the public domain this week pertaining to the role of the SABC as a Public Service Broadcaster, including but not limited, to the allegation that members of the SABC News and Current Affairs division staff have been improperly prevented or barred from interviewing certain analysts/experts/commentators on SABC radio and/or television due to their political views, as well as any alleged wrongdoing on the part of any member of the SABC staff in connection therewith."

The enquiry will be chaired by Zwelakhe Sisulu who will be assisted by Advocate Gilbert Marcus SC. Their findings and recommendations will be tabled to the SABC upon the completion of their report.

The SABC is currently finalising more specific Terms of Reference. The enquiry will commence its work as soon as practically possible, the statement said.
