New app guides school leavers to potential careers

Via Afrika has added a new app to its educational app suite, CareerCompass, which enables young people to gain insight into the careers they are best suited for. Furthermore, they can even get an idea of current job opportunities that are currently available for a particular career.

The app available for download on both Android and Apple tablets and smartphones and can be used in a web browser on a computer. CareerCompass, available in Afrikaans as LoopbaanKompas, can be used in three ways:

  1. You can take each of the five quizzes to find out which careers are the best fit for you, based on your interests and aptitudes.
  2. You can select your existing subjects to get a sense of which careers your subject choice opens up for you.
  3. You can browse through a growing list of careers to see which school subjects are the most relevant to that field, and find currently available jobs online to see how big the market is for that specific career.

"With the high competition for jobs out there, learners require every bit of assistance possible to prepare for their futures," says Via Afrika CEO, Christina Watson. "We worked with industry experts to develop an app that gives learners the tools they need to see which doors are open to them, based on their interests and aptitudes, giving them the best possible advantage when it comes to their next steps."

Via Africa offers other education apps such as:

  • Tabtor Maths, a maths tutoring app
  • Test-Urself, a study-buddy app for exam revision
  • Let's Read, developed for feature phones, which answers the growing demand for quality literature in all eleven official South African languages
  • Bragstones, which helps users create scrapbook albums with pictures of their loved ones or helps learners create portfolios for their school projects
  • Play&Learn, which develops key skills for children ages 4 to 8 years
