Samsung sales ban in Australia upheld

An Australian court has upheld the ban on sales of Samsung's sales Galaxy Tablet handing Apple another victory in another foreign market. It has granted an interim interdict preventing sales of the Galaxy 10.1 tablet computer in Australia.

Fin24 says that Samsung and Apple are embroiled in a global patent war with both companies accusing the other of patents infringements.

Samsung has said it will fight the ban but it could take most of next year before the patent dispute is resolved. The Galaxy Tablet rivals Apple's iPad. The Australian dispute centres on the touch screen technology that Samsung uses.

The court ruled that Samsung had a case to answer on at least two of Apple's patents. Apple has successfully blocked sales of the Samsung tablets in Germany and has also blocked sales of the Samsung smartphone models in the Netherlands.

The Australian ruling comes ahead of similar hearings that will be heard in America and South Korea at some time in the future. Samsung says it will continue with its own patent claim against Apple that involves Samsung's wireless technology.
