One Band. Seven Videos.

Reburn describe themselves as an indie band. But they can't be any further away from a euphoric aKing chorus or the red wine of Astray Electric. A bit more pop rock and fun and not so ideologically stuck, the band has a knack for the unorthodox. Abandoning all notions of rock business they get dance DJ's and comedians to be their supporting acts and now they have gone and made seven videos for their album.
One Band. Seven Videos.

Referring to the DVD launch, movie maker Marnus Tredoux says: “Apparently there are going to be porn stars” Everyone hoots with laughter. Marnus met Reburn after he attended one of their gigs and approached them with the idea of a video. Trailing behind them at parties and buying them drinks he tempted them using an i-pod. “We came back asking him to make seven videos” says Reburn front man Stephen “Scotty” Moore “because we want to promote the band.”

Alex McFarlane, the band's guitarist and stoical member, says “I think the videos accurately bring across the story of the songs” I do admit the videos are good (let's confess, if they weren't you wouldn't be reading this right now). And the quality is of an international standard, unlike the crusty camp videos that plague Mk.
“I sat awake for 48 hours finishing the finer details” says editor Leon Visser proudly, with a tired face.

Being true to the Reburn nature the videos are entertaining rather than ‘intellectual and arty'. And contain a kind of visual look and feel we haven't seen since the late 90's. The video for Prodigal Son, a story about young man who unintentionally stays in trouble, reflects Reburn as a younger Oasis. It also the video that features Scotty's stunt double who looks more like he's complete opposite. But hey nothing's perfect.

Another oddity is that half of the videos were shot in the heart of the Metal community, (Gandalf's, ROAR and Eye of Horus) an indie first. And ironic because of McFarlane's claim to have “saved Scotty from a life of Metal”.

The video that has caused the most excitement, and made the band hot under the collar, is the video for their song Outta My Mind. The song starts with Jonathan Meumann banging a Mo Tuckeresque beat and McFarlane strumming a dance melody, whilst blindfolded Scotty gets abducted by a minx who speeds off in a 911 Porsche. As the video progresses, more appetizing women kidnap the remaining band members only to torture them playfully and sexually. The video ends with said women getting their voyeuristic kicks by watching the captured band from a peeping booth.

The band and production team are proud. The work is done. The DVD, which will be available at all their live shows, has a total of 89 minutes running time. Aside from the videos, there is a live gig, behind the scenes features and hidden goodies. (Try to find the derrière shot of the front man).

In the interview on the DVD McFarlane claims “We just want people to have fun and not be so serious all the time. Just come to our show and have a good time.” Scotty interrupts: “And get drunk.” There you have it. Go see Reburn. Buy the DVD.
