New Burchmore's store in Cape Town
For the first time, the branch is able to hold drive-through auctions. “In the past, because we were so confined, the auctions used to be ‘walked' from car to car. We could obviously start the cars, but that didn't necessarily mean that they were in good driving condition,” explains Machiel Adendorff, dealership manager. Customers have met this move with much enthusiasm.
A coffee shop is provided for staff and customers and an Internet café is about to open. Associated products are also up for sale - such as smash and grab protection and safety bands for tyres.
“We can accommodate 300 cars on the floor. All areas have good access for disabled customers and the premises were also designed with the environment in mind; they are extremely light and airy, minimising the need for artificial lighting,” adds Adendorff.
This is the first operation to go wireless in terms of telephone and data. There is no cabling in the building, which has boosted efficiencies (workstations are portable) and is more cost-effective in the long-term.
Sales volumes are already improving because of the move to new premises: they have grown from 250 to 450 auction sales, whereas retail sales (off the floor) have leapt from 60 to 105 units a month. Its new telephone number is +27 (0) 21 525 2700.
