KykNET announces new shows
The show's success is ensured, with over one million audience votes having been cast in the final week of the first season and almost four million page impressions recorded on the 'Zing' website. In addition, the 2003 winners, Johnny and Vivian's first single achieved platinum status within the first week of release.
The second season of 'Song for Katryn' is also on the cards, after the first series delivered an average of 23.3 ARs against DStv Afrikaans Adults, according to research by Oracle Airtime Sales. An interesting development has been the popularity of 'Die Ander Kant', a relatively new series, which features a clairvoyant who selects audience members for 'readings'. Despite having been anticipated to appeal to a niche audience, it has received over 12 000 calls from viewers since the first episode and has shown average ARs of 8.8.
The murder-mystery, 'Plek van die Vleisvreters' has become one of many audience-driven programmes. This series started on 15 April and Oracle Airtime Sales says it has already achieved exceptional ratings – 21.5ARs and 46 percent share.
KykNET will be launching its own soap opera, 'Rosenhof', towards the end of the year. Viewers can expect a world-class production, well-know actors, as well as storylines filled with drama, suspense and action.
KykNET has maintained its position as the third-highest watched channel on the DStv bouquet against DStv adults and is consistently the top-performing channel against DStv Afrikaans subscribers. The channel enjoys high patronage levels across a variety of demographics: DStv Adults: 40%; DStv Eng/Afr Adults: 43%, DStv Nguni/Sotho Adults: 17% and DStv Children: 37%
At a kykNET function last week, to introduce the new shows and developments, Pentamark's Dalene van Ass, who represents Jeep said, "We regard the Afrikaans market as being a key, top-end and loyal market and kykNET is an integral part of our media plan. The channel offers value to viewers and advertisers alike, while targeting a market that represents the second-most spoken language in the country." She confirms that they have been advertising on kykNET since its inception four years ago.
Nedbank's Nikki Spottiswoode says they, too, have been supporting kykNET on a long-term basis. "kykNET gives us the opportunity to reach a vital sector of our target market and at Nedbank, we recognise the importance of communicating to people in their own environment. We have several future campaigns planned where kykNET will be a vital component of the media strategy."
