Just Office supports reading in CT

The annual City of Cape Town Reading Competition for the Mitchells Plain/Khayelitsha Districts held its District Round late last month at the Northwood Community Hall.

Hosted by the city's Library and Information Services Department, a total of 15 libraries participated in the event, with more than 60 schools and 200 learners competing for top honours.

The key goal of this popular initiative, which sees young competitors from preliminary school rounds advancing to the District Round, is to address the reading challenges of our communities, improve proficiency and fluency and build relations amongst schools in these districts.

Cape-based office solutions company, Just Office, was once again a main sponsor of the event. "This is a project close to my heart for a number of reasons," stated Victoria Bauer, MD of Just Office. "Principally because we firmly believe that education and literacy are key to the upliftment of our underprivileged communities. The majority of our staff also hail from these areas, so our continued commitment and support for this initiative is important to us in a many ways."

Sponsorship of the district round involves floating trophies for first, second and third place in each of the English, Afrikaans and Xhosa categories, prizes for first, second and third place in each of the three language categories, as well as medals for each of the 40 participants. Further support included the provision of 'party packs' for the children and catering for judges and teachers, all in all ensuring a valuable, productive and memorable event for all participants.
