If there is one in three people using the internet in the world, then the need for web presence that is informative and reputable is essential, in order to generate more business.

While most businesses do not need highly functional and interactive websites, all businesses need a web presence that speaks to brand reliability and the value of the products or services offered by that business. Businesses that do not need complex websites still require a website that communicates the key messages of business; the product offering, unique selling proposition, contact details and, where necessary, a frequently asked questions page.

Although cheap websites can easily be spotted, because of breakdowns such as hyperlink failure, 'under construction' banners, spelling errors and poor grammar, it is possible to create a great website using frugal resources prudently, with the assistance of the correct supplier. A basic website can be created and effectively communicate the business' key messages and strategic intention in an intelligent manner, without breaking the bank.

The World Wide Web can be a scary place for many individuals who are perhaps not as internet savvy as their children and therefore shy away from delving into the website world. While website development can indeed be a complicated and technical process, there are suppliers in the market who have simplified the process.

My company, for example, has created an easy to use web-based application, allowing users to create their own website within minutes, even with only basic Microsoft Word knowledge. Templates are made available to make the process even simpler and these can be manipulated to include logos, colour choices, font preferences and individualised content. In addition, the website will never become stagnant, as unlimited changes can be made at no extra charge.

It is also important for the process of creating a website to be as simple as possible, without compromising on quality. Websites can be created by following an easy four step process; check domain availability, select the required basket of services, input personal and company details and input bank details for debit order; with that the templates become available.

Frances Wright of PR, marketing and operations firm, Trinitas Consulting, states, "Small business is the primary (54%) driver of formal employment in the country." It is therefore important that small business be given as much support as possible, especially about capital requirements and time constraints. Where better to start than providing small (and all) business with the tools needed to make it visible to its target market?
