Loeries, Vodacom to reward mobile ads

There's a new Loeries category this year: the Mobile Advertising Award in partnership with Vodacom. "Internet advertising generated a new platform a few years ago and now mobile advertising is definitely the way of the future with the vast majority of South Africans being cellphone savvy,” explains Andrew Human, MD of The Loerie Awards.

In order to promote the growth of this category, Vodacom is offering a special prize of two iPod touch devices and R50 000 worth of advertising spend with Vodacom Mobile Media.

Linking to the latest medium of brand communication, the award will cater to the recent growth in the use of mobile devices in the advertising mix. "Mobile media is an exciting new addition to the world of advertising," adds Human.

Mobile media is said to offer brands unlimited yet targeted exposure, as cellphones are always carried, and always on. Comments Rick Joubert, head of Vodacom Mobile Advertising, "There is no doubt that mobile advertising revenues will continue to grow faster than any other media channel. The measurability and adaptability of the medium will ensure significantly increased mobile budgets for brands. Agencies can no longer ignore the power of integrating mobile into the marketing mix."

On his company's partnership with The Loerie Awards, Joubert enthuses, "All egos aside, it was an absolute no-brainer when we were presented with the opportunity to be the Digital category sponsor for the Loeries. Not only are we extremely excited and proud to be part of this prestigious awards event but we firmly believe that the time has come for mobile advertising to be showcased as a mainstream advertising medium.”

The closing date for Loeries entries is 15 May 2009. For more information on categories and how to enter your work, go to www.theloerieawards.co.za.
