Environmental Envoy Programme launches

For the fifth year, Bayer and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) launches its Bayer Young Environmental Envoy programme, creating an opportunity for aspiring environmentalists to share ideas and exchange experiences with youth from 19 countries during a weeklong study trip to Germany in November 2012.

Youth between the ages of 18 and 24 years, who are actively involved in environmental activities, may submit a summary of their projects in English, describing how the project has or is addressing any environmental challenges for example, sustainable agriculture; water conservation; litter and waste management; energy efficiency and climate change. The closing date for entries is 31 July 2012.

"As South Africa focuses on the youth and the environment in June, the group wishes to create environmental awareness among the youth and encourage them to take ownership and protect their environment. We encourage youth leaders with a passion for the environment to take advantage of this prospect and make a difference in their communities," said Bayer Southern Africa CEO, Bjoern Skogum.

Through the programme, the group provides a platform for South Africa's youth to take part in a global initiative that forms an integral part of its sustainable development objectives.
