The Galliova Awards, which are sponsored by the South African Egg Industry, recognise excellence in food writing, food styling and overall promotion of the South African food culture.
The awards' judging process pays special attention to the manner in which the food writers address their market and whether they are in touch with the lifestyle, needs and tastes of their respective readers. The general appearance of their work, food styling, photography and artwork is also considered.
The panel of judges included local entertainment personality Nataniël, True Love magazine editor Dorah Sitole, the founder and principal of the Institute of Culinary Arts, Letitia Prinsloo, and publisher and culinary consultant Lannice Snyman.
Lydia van der Merwe, Sarie's health writer, was a runner-up in the Health Writers Category.
