The labour union says its members have gone back to work at the Amplats operation in Rustenburg. Sibanye recently bought a stake in the mine.

Amcu says it obtained a strike certificate in January of this year. Following a deadlock in talks with the mine’s management, the union served the latter notice on 24 May, and proceeded with strike action on 26 May, as per the 48 hours’ notice to strike required by law.

“On 27 May we resumed the strike, until 30 May when the judge ruled in management’s favour. The interdict ruled that we discontinue with the strike and our members return to work.”

“However, this does not mean we will park our discussions regarding the demands. We will go back to labour court on 26 August to resolve the matter, and are meeting with mine management on 2 June to continue discussing these pressing issues," a statement from the union says.
