The recent collaboration meeting hosted by Conlog with the Department of Basic Education (DBE) addressed the poor pass rate in the country, with the view to finding suitable solutions to improve the results in our schools.
Education collaboration geared to improve school pass rate

This collaboration initiative or “think tank” was officially launched at a function held at Conlog’s Head Office last week. Director for Partnerships in Education at the Department of Basic Education, Louis Taylor, delivered the keynote address and hailed the partnership “It is pleasing to see a public-private partnership in action, as private companies work together with government to fight these challenges. We as the Department of Basic Education are indeed grateful for the contribution made by Conlog and we are encouraged by the commitment of the company to further invest in Education which will consequently have a positive impact on future results,” said Taylor.

Under the management of Conlog’s Corporate Social Investment committee numerous projects were funded recently, mainly focusing in maths and Science. A good education is founded on the premise that the environment be conducive to the practice of learning. It should be able to make available to learners the infrastructure, facilities and resources necessary for learning. Sadly, in South Africa the legacy of our past does not always render this basic fundamental a reality. All too often we find that our country's schools - especially those serving the historically disadvantaged or today's lower income groups - do not measure up. Many fall short in terms of both infrastructure and the provision of the tools necessary to give effect to efficient teaching and effective learning and we hope that our contribution is a small step to making an improvement, said Logan Moodley, Chief Executive Officer of Conlog.

Chief Executive Officer of New Africa Education Foundation, Ahmed Motala, an NPO, that is an official partner of the DBE, added that “A good education system, supported by proper infrastructure is the backbone of any nation. South Africa is no exception in this regard, although we, in this country, face numerous challenges in the delivery of sound education, it is partnerships such as these that will overcome obstacles to effective teaching in our schools."
