The Editors Who Applied Their Minds

South Africa’s first ever business television game show with seasoned news journalist Chris Gibbons as quizmaster, saw twenty of the country’s top business and finance journalists being put through their general knowledge paces in a bid for their spot in the Editors sector at the final event.

The battle between the dailies, the weeklies, the print media and electronic media has resulted in a team comprising ten top business brains. Congratulations to:

  • Michael Coulson (Deputy Editor) and Stuart Theobald (Banking Writer) , Financial Mail

  • Peter Bruce (Editor) and Jonathan Katzenellenbogen (International Affairs Editor), Business Day

  • Flip Meyer (Group Finance Editor) and David van Rooyen (Business Editor: Beeld) , Media24

  • Sven Lunsche (Editor) and Michel Pireu (Web Developer), Johnnic Online

  • Tim Cohen (Associate Editor) and Ilja Graulich (Companies and Markets Editor), Business Day

These winning journalists will compete as the Editors sector at the final event at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) on Thursday, 9th May 2002. At this grand event, they’ll get to challenge another 15 teams from sectors listed on the JSE Securities Exchange. And who better to put their minds to the test than the CEO of the JSE Securities Exchange, Russell Loubser.

Says Astrid Ascar, Head of Programming for Summit TV: "We’re thrilled with the response we’ve had to the GIBS Business Masterminds TV Series. Clearly our business viewers enjoyed the challenge of putting their own mental muscle to the test! and we hope to have more of the same on Summit in future."

Summit TV will broadcast an edited highlights wrap of the final competition between the Editors’ sector and the other 15 JSE sector teams in the week of 13th May.
