Radio project aims to highlight health issues

In partnership with the Medical Knowledge Institute, ABC Ulwazi* has embarked on a new project in the Western Cape. It has produced a series of public service announcements that highlight the importance of health education and encourage people to take responsibility for their health.

The Medical Knowledge Institute has identified 10 topics concerning individual health care, and ABC Ulwazi has adapted these for radio in three languages: Xhosa, English and Afrikaans.

Through these programmes, the aim is to provide community radio listeners with information that has a direct impact on their health and wellbeing.

The series will be broadcast on the following community radio stations based in the Western Cape:

Radio Zibonele
Radio Helderberg
CCFM
Radio KC
Radio Atlantis
Valley FM

The broadcast will begin in late January and run until the end of February 2011.
