Watchdog seeks support in Africa against pirate broadcasters

NEWSWATCH: ICASA is working on clipping wings of the new satellite service broadcaster MSNBC Africa if the channel does not comply with the law, reports SABCnews.com, and has called on other regulatory bodies in sub-Saharan countries to join the fight to stop pirate broadcasters.

According to IOL, the Democratic Aliance (DA) and the Independent Democrats have released separate statements calling for media companies to act against the ANC's intolerance of the media, saying that ANC's media policy drawn up in Polokwane is a bid by the organisation to push control over the media.

The new chairperson of the SABC board Khanyisiwe Mkhonza has said that the new board will not be making immediate changes but will rather focus key issue and adding on to what the old board built and ensuring that SABC is ready for 2010, writes SABCnews.com.
