New interior sparks creativity at human.kind

The ad agency Human.kind recently briefed PPS Interiors to conceptualise an office interior that reflects the agency's ethos, interest in social and environmental health and aim to exist in a state of harmony beyond office walls. The resulting design has provided renewed heart for the agency's home.

The objective of the revamp was to create fun spaces that maintained a degree of corporate professionalism, while introducing a South African flavour. Situated in an old house in Dunkeld, Johannesburg, the design team identified a lack of coherent design follow-through, dark spaces and an overly segmented office environment as key issues that needed to be resolved.

"We wanted our space to reflect the team of highly talented individuals who work here," says Deon Kruger, MD of human.kind. "PPS Interiors have managed to open up the building to allow for a bright, funky environment, integrating the colonial roots of the building with contemporary South African culture."

Areas

The cut out of South Africa in the reception area shows the country's nine provinces. Alongside this map is a greeting in each of South Africa's 11 official languages, with the colour of each greeting corresponding to the colour of the province in which it is predominantly spoken.

The library/small meeting room was designed to create a versatile space for meetings or relaxation. The table and benches can be folded up to create a larger space.

Both of the boardrooms utilise reclaimed timber cladding, AstroTurf and polished concrete that are juxtaposed creating a funky and fun yet clear space.

"The designers have done a fantastic job of encapsulating the essence of the agency, allowing us a bright, inspiring space in which to create ingenious ideas to accelerate our clients' brand growth," concludes Kruger.
