Call for board nominations for SA Weather Service, SANParks, Sanbi
“Persons to be appointed on the boards will have a duty to ensure that the entities serve the interests of all South Africans, and contribute to the realisation of the Constitutional right to an environment that is not harmful to their health and wellbeing,” said Creecy.
In this regard, the boards will be charged with the responsibilities of steering the entities to compliance with prevailing corporate governance standards, while exercising oversight of the organisations, and making decisions about important issues the organisations face.
Suitable experience or expertise required
Therefore, nominees for each of the entities must have suitable experience or expertise in strategic management and leadership, community development, financial management, audit and risk, corporate governance, water resource management, air quality management, protected areas management, amongst other skills.
Furthermore, a member of the board must be fit and proper to hold office, and have the appropriate qualifications. As such, the appointment procedure to be employed will entail vetting of the shortlisted candidates, verification of their qualifications with the South African Qualifications Authority and cabinet consultations.
