Entrepreneur asks for donations for six-day charity ride

David Kalis, a 37-year-old entrepreneur based in Cape Town has decided to cycle a distance of 800km around the Western Cape to raise awareness for City Mission, a charity that has been assisting homeless and disadvantaged families for over 100 years.
Entrepreneur asks for donations for six-day charity ride

"I am challenging companies and individuals to donate R1 for every kilometre I'll be cycling," Kalis has said. "If 150 people accept the challenge, we'll have raised R120,000 for the City Mission."

This is not the first physical challenge Kalis has undertaken to raise funds - he was a participant in last year's Trans Agulhas Challenge, the world's toughest inflatable boat race. After many years without riding a bicycle, Kalis has decided to get back in the saddle and will be setting out to cycle a distance of 800km around the Western Cape in only six days.

The trip kicks off on 1 May 2013 with a 116km ride around the Cape Peninsula, then from Cape Town to Vredenburg on day two (149km), Citrusdal on day three (137Km), Ceres on day four (113Km), and Franschhoek on day five (140km), before heading back via Paarl, Wellington, Stellenbosch and Durbanville on day six (145Km).

Find 150 individuals/companies to donate

Kalis is already in his second week of training and said: "Everything is going according to plan, now just to find the 150 individuals/companies to donate! A project of this nature may be an initiative of one person, but it will never be a success without the support of caring sponsors and donors. I am very proud to be a South African, because in this country there are still so many people that truly care about others and really want to make a difference."
