Website will be used to combat tender corruption
Finance MEC Mandla Mkomfe said that his department would publish all tenders awarded by all provincial departments on a quarterly basis, a decision that was signed off yesterday.
The announcement comes amid complaints and enquiries about tenders awarded by the province without proper adjudication processes being followed.
Briefing the media on his department's first-quarter performance, Mkomfe said his department would publish all tenders won, and identify the companies that won them, but it had not yet decided on whether or not to publish the names of the directors of companies that won bids.
"The idea behind this is to ensure there is transparency in our tender processes," he said.
Mkomfe said all procurement processes would be authorised only by heads of departments and chief financial officers.
"Contracts for the provision of goods and services to the Gauteng provincial government will be restricted to three years with annual renegotiation options.
"We believe this will encourage healthy competition among service providers and increase access into the market."
