ABC-e and IOL, e-MEDIA24 reach compromise

Instead of the complete walkout that they threatened, IOL and e-MEDIA24 have agreed to have their membership to the ABC-e temporarily suspended until some of their concerns have been addressed.

In a statement on Friday ABC-e chairman Craig Farham said that the three parties had agreed that there was a crisis in the Internet industry and that in order to stimulate growth in the industry certain issues had to be addressed.

A walk-out by IOL and e-MEDIA24, following soon after the departure of iAfrica and M-Web, could have spelt the end for ABC-e, but it now appears that after Friday's agreement the ABC-e will stay in place to fulfil the site auditing role while another body/bodies will focus on audience-centric statistics. It is expected that the development of the new organisation will assist to iron out all the problems and be the forum that ABCe can't possibly be due to it not being its core focus. The first meeting of the association is due to take place late in November and will be chaired by Arthur Goldstuck, with its first goal to get online media included into SAARF's Amps figures.

In terms of the agreement IOL and e-MEDIA24 will be actively involved in the process of refining ABC-e's mandate. Third quarter figures will not be reported, but it is possible that a decision could be reached to report on the last three months of the year.
