Silver moment at Saxenburg

The Saxenburg Wine Estate celebrated its 25th vintage with a superb ‘Silver Chilled Dinner' held at the estate on the hills overlooking Kuils River near Stellenbosch on Tuesday 29 September 2009.
Silver moment at Saxenburg

Nico van der Merwe, Saxenburg's cellar master, is believed to be the only winemakers in SA that has produced 25 vintages in 20 years. His hard work and dedication, both at Saxenburg and its sister estate in the south of France Château Capion, has resulted in this wine farm lining its walls with prestigious awards every year.

The farm was also celebrating two decades of the Buhrer family owning the farm and 10 years of exquisite dining at the farm's Guinea Fowl restaurant with award wining chef, Leo Romer. The restaurant proudly displays the Blazon from the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Society on its wall. The Chaîne des Rôtisseurs is the local equivalent of the Michelin Star and is awarded only for the highest of quality and service.

Fiona Buhrer, daughter of owners Adrian and Birgit and Saxenburg's national sales and marketing director is thrilled to have reached this milestone. “I am so happy to be continuing the family legacy and following in my father's footsteps. Wine comes first at Saxenburg but we value every member of our team who contribute to our success. We are dedicated to the art of making wine and everyone who works for us shares the same passion and commitment.”

Van der Merwe comments on their achievements: “In order to be successful in this industry, consistency is key. People come to expect a certain standard when it comes to the wine and it is important for me that our customers can rely on that quality, this is why the utmost care goes into every part of the wine making process.”
