A spicy new campaign from saucy Nando's

Five years ago Nando's Peri-Peri sauces made their debut with their unforgettable 'barking chicken' advert. Now, with some spicy new additions to the retail family, they've come up with another campaign to taunt the tastebuds of their consumers with a new range of grinders and sprinkles.

Zanzibar, also known as Spice Island, with its rich tapestry of history and culture was the perfect backdrop for the launch of the Nando's spices, and as such, the inspiration for the new 'grocery' commercial. Filmed in the narrow coral-walled streets that form the social hub of Zanzibar, the commercial aimed to capture the essence of the people and culture as well as the splendid colours and rich cultural heritage.

In stark contrast to these inspirational surroundings, Nando's draws in the South Africa element, as the attractive South African actress in the commercial stops a passer-by and confronts him with a Peri-Peri Grinder and asks in a most unlikely accent, "Hey man, where'd you buy this?". This ending, according to Nando's publicity, is supposed to reinforce the idea that no matter where you may be, you can never leave your roots behind, your authentic self.

Explains Nando's Grocery International Chief Operating Officer, John Paidoussi: "With this new ad, we wanted to communicate how passionate we are about the new arrivals to our range but still show consumers that we don't take ourselves too seriously. Peri-Peri in itself is a versatile ingredient which is evident in our extensive range of products from sauces to chocolate and now we welcome the introduction of the dry version of our famous Peri-Peri... the spice of inspiration."
